POWERFUL BLACK STORIES

THAT INSPIRE GLOBAL AUDIENCES

WAX and GOLD (ሰምና ወርቅ) is an Ethiopian literary device. The “wax” is the obvious meaning while the “gold” is the hidden meaning. Taken literally, it refers to the goldsmith’s technique of casting pieces by making a clay mold around a wax mold, draining the wax and then pouring the molten gold into that form. The gold can be appreciated.

Founded by Prince Joel and Princess Ariana Makonnen, WAX and GOLD is a Los Angeles-based media and entertainment company committed to storytelling in many forms – from film and television to books – focused on powerful Black stories that inspire global audiences. Wax and Gold will give a fresh take on Africa and its Diaspora by curating compelling stories to help shape a new narrative for the continent.

Inspired by the royal couple’s own story, which is a marriage of Africa, America, and the Caribbean, Wax and Gold’s broader mission is to forge a unified Black identity worldwide, fostering a sense of shared history and a shared destiny.
